Blue Monday

Blue Monday highlights Alberto Chiozzi's artistic personality not only as a skilled jazz drummer, but also as a confident and thoughtful bandleader. Deeply rooted in the bebop and straight-ahead jazz tradition, Chiozzi brings together rhythmic precision, strong swing, and a clear understanding of ensemble playing.

His leadership is based above all on attentive listening. Rather than dominating the music, he guides the group from the drums, supporting the soloists and shaping the direction, dynamics, and atmosphere of each performance. His playing gives the ensemble a solid rhythmic foundation while preserving the freedom and spontaneity that are essential to jazz.

Following the tradition of drummers such as Kenny Clarke, Max Roach, Art Blakey, and Philly Joe Jones, Chiozzi treats the drums as both a rhythmic and creative voice. His accents, dynamic choices, and musical responses actively contribute to the dialogue among the musicians.

The cohesion and distinctive character of Blue Monday demonstrate Chiozzi's ability to lead with authority, generosity, and artistic vision. The album presents him as a musician capable of shaping a collective sound while allowing every member of the ensemble to express an individual voice.
